The capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar is the largest city in the state. It is situated in the heart of the Kashmir valley at an altitude of 1,730 meters above the sea level. During the period of 1420 to 1470, the valley came under the rule of King Zain-ul-Abidin Srinagar is situated on the sides of the Jhelum River and offers picturesque and beautiful locals. Chashm-e-Shahi

The literal meaning of Chashm-e-Shahi is the Royal Spring. The garden was built by Ali Mardan - a governor of Shah Jahan. The creatively constructed garden has Iranian touch in its art and architecture and its design is based on the Persian gardens. It is one of the famous places to visit in Srinagar.

Hazratbal Shrine

Hazratbal Shrine is located just opposite the Nishat Bagh on the banks of Dal Lake. It is one of the most popular shrines in Srinagar, equally respected by Hindus as well as Muslims. The name, Hazratbal has been derived from an Arabic word Hazrat, which means holy. The souvenirs of Prophet Mohammad are kept at Hazratbal Shrine.

Nagin Lake

Nagin Lake in Srinagar split off from the Dal Lake. It is fed by natural springs and the water in the lake is transparent. Nagin Lake is situated at the east of the city and at the foot of the Zabarwan Mountain. There are many houseboats that can be seen in the Nagin Lake. Do not miss a chance to go through some exciting water skis and motor rides in Nagin Lake.

Wular Lake

Wular Lake is supposed to be the largest freshwater lake in India, which is 18 km long and 12 km wide. Spread over an area of about 130 km², this lake offers excitement and fun to the visitor on their trip. Fishing in this lake is an important occupation and other attractions are 15th century ruins lying in the heart of the lake. These are remains of an ancient island called Zaina Lanka and was built by King Zain-ul-Abidin.

Shankaracharya Hill

There is a Shankaracharya Temple on the top of this hill that allows you enjoying the spectacular views of Srinagar. There is a big Shivlinga inside the temple and no mobile phones or cameras are allowed inside the temple.

Indira Gandhi Tulip Garden

Situated close to the famous Cheshm-e-Shahi and botanical garden, Indira Gandhi Tulip Garden is a great attraction in Srinagar. It remains open between 1st April and 30th April. You can see here an attractive range of Tulip flowers. These flowers create a breathtaking view for the visitors.

Betab Valley

It is the place where the song of film Betab – Jab Hum Jawan Honge was shot. You can roam around this place and enjoy the awesome views of all around. The place looks like a paradise.

Shah-e-Hamdan

Located on the banks of River Jhelum, this is a famous shrine of the location. This is a blend of Persian and Dogra architecture and attracts a number of visitors.

Pari Mahal

Situated on the top of Zabarwan Mountain and overlooking city of Srinagar, Pari Mahal is a seven terraced garden. The architecture of the place beautifully displays Islamic architecture and appreciation of art during Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. The view of the garden is really awesome.

Jama Masjid

It is the prime religious place in Srinagar, which is beautiful and grand. Jama Masjid is a must visit attraction in Srinagar. Calm and peaceful, the mosque fulfills every desire of its devotees.

Badamwari Garden

This is really a very beautiful garden featuring a number of almond trees. So, it is named as Badamwari. The place is mainly visited by local people due to not being very famous. Hence, it is very calm where you can spend some relaxed time.

Dal Lake

Dal Lake in Srinagar is one of the most significant and beautiful tourist destinations in Srinagar. It is around 8.5 km in length and 4 km in width. One of the key tourist attractions of the Dal Lake is the houseboats standing on edges. There is huge number of fishes in Dal Lake and it is surrounded by snowcapped mountains on three sides. Dal Lake is the second largest lake in the state of Jammu & Kashmir.

Mughal Garden

Mughal Gardens in Srinagar are not to be missed attractions for all the tourists coming here. There are three Mughal gardens in Srinagar - Nishat Garden, Shalimar Garden and Chashm-e-Shahi, which are located around the Dal Lake.

Nishat Garden

It was built by Asif Khan – father in law of Shah Jehan. Also known as Nishat Bagh, it is a terraced Mughal Garden that enjoys a splendid view of the Dal Lake beneath the snowcapped Pir Panjal mountain range.

Shalimar Garden

Also known as Shalimar Bagh, the garden was built by Jahangir for his wife Noor Jehan. The garden is superbly created and maintained and known for its exceptional architectural essence.
