This fort is a place of pride for the erstwhile kings of Chamba and Bhadarwah. It also housed various freedom fighters including Pandit Kashyap Bandu, Sant Singh Teg and later former chief minister Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah. It was built in the year 1733 and converted into a jail in 1919. The latest LED based Light & Sound system is being installed in the Fort, which is one of its kind in the country.
