Pokhran (also spelled as Pokaran) is a city and a municipality situated in the Jaisalmer district, of the Indian state of Rajasthan. Pokhran is located at a remote location in the Thar Desert region and served as the test site for India's first underground nuclear weapon detonation. It is bounded by five big salt rocks; Pokhran accurately means 'the place of five mirages'. This destination first came into eye of world, when India carried out a series of nuclear tests here. Pokhran Fort:
This massive fort, made of yellow sandstone was constructed around four centuries ago by Rao Maldeo, the Thakur of Marwar. It houses a small temple of Goddess Durga and Pokhran Museum that displays the evidences of bygone era like, miniature paintings, costumes of former kings, armory and pottery items. The fort also has various stunning palaces inside its premises. This fort has now been transformed into a Heritage hotel.
Gurdwara Damdama Sahib Pehli Patshahi (Gurdwara Pokhran Sahib):
Gurdwara Damdama Sahib Pehli Patshahi, also known as Gurdwara Pokhran Sahib is a historical Sikh shrine located in Pokhran Town, in Rajasthan. This historical Gurdwara commemorates a visit by Guru Nanak, probably during his second Udasi, when Guru Sahib had visited Jaisalmer. It is a famous shrine of Sikhs and visited by a large number of Sikh devotees.
