One of the most prominent celebrations takes place on every Thursday, when a “Palki procession” is taken through the streets of Shirdi. This Palki consist of an image of Sai Baba, along with his chillum, slippers & stick decorated and carried on the shoulders of the priests. Another festival celebrated with great zeal is Ramnavami, held in March or April. Attended by both Hindus and Muslims, two special events that take place here include the changing of the wheat sack at Dwarkamai and the replacement of Dwarkamai flags. Also, the Shirdi Vijayadashmi is an evenly great celebration in Shirdi and a large number of celebrations and prayer sessions are organized. During this festival, the Brahman Bhojan is also organized.

If it is your first trip to Shirdi and you don’t know what to buy in Shirdi? There are several shops in Shirdi that sell photos and statues of Sai Baba. This is a major commercial activity of this town. The shops open as early as 7:00 am and close late, at around 10:30 pm. Souvenirs related to the life and times of Sai Baba are available at the few stores that line the main temple complex, which are the famous shopping items in Shirdi. Other things to buy in Shirdi are the hardbound English edition of Shri Sai Satcharita.
