By Air

To reach Shillong by air without any difficulty, the city has an airport. It is connected with various cities of India through Air India Regional. Shillong Airport is known as Umroi Airport, which is located at Urmoi – 30 km away from the city. Another airport is Borjhar Airport, which is situated in Guwahati and is the nearest international airport. Buses are available between Guwahati and Shillong to connect both the cities with each other.

By Road

Roads are the best ways to reach Shillong. The journey from Guwahati to Shillong takes about 4 hours of drive through NH-40 and the journey between Silchar and Shillong is a 9 hours’ of drive. It enjoys an excellent range of roads, while some narrow paths are also there in certain parts. The main interstate bus stand is located right next to Guwahati railway station. Buses operated by Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) and Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) ply on a certain interval between Guwahati and Shillong.

Travel within City You won’t face any inconvenience in taking internal transport. Shillong has a large fleet of yellow and black taxis, which are available regularly. Taxis on sharing basis also run in the city on fixed points basis and charges a fixed rate. There are buses for a few routes in Shillong. Mini buses are also available for traveling within the city at the same fare structure.

By Train

One can’t reach Shillong by train directly as there is no railway station. There are no proper rail lines in the state of Meghalaya. The nearest railway station to Shillong is Guwahati railway station, which is located at a distance of 105 km from the city. Guwahati is well connected to all major cities of India through excellent network of railway. On arrival at the station, one can take buses to Shillong. Car on rent are also available.
