Situated in the Nainital district of the state of Uttarakhand, Jim Corbett National Park is located close to Ramnagar-Kashipur highway. It is spread over an area of 520 km² and appeals a number of visitors. It is the oldest national park in India, which used to be just another Himalayan forest of the region. It was established in the year 1936 as Hailey National park and was declared as a reserve area by the British Government. Prior to 1936, Rewa Maharaja of Rewa used this place for jungle hunting, mainly because of the diverse plants and animal population offered by the region. Post independence, the park was named as Ramganga National Park in the year 1955 and but later in 1956, it was renamed again as Jim Corbett National Park. Jim Corbett was a famous hunter, who became ecologist and author and played an important role in the foundation of this national park.

Jim Corbett National Park is presently one of the most famous Wildlife Sanctuary in India and is famous for the presence of the Royal Bengal tiger in the sanctuary. It was declared as an exclusive tiger reserve on 1st April, 1973, with support of World Wildlife Fund. It protects the critically endangered Bengal Tiger of India. This park is one of the well-maintained and protected areas in India, which attracts a huge number of Indian and Foreign tourists every year. Sited at the foothills of Himalayan belt, the place is known for diverse geographical and ecological characteristics offering excellent landscapes. Its varied geography is comprised of hilly and river bank areas, passing marshy depressions, highlands and ravines. There are four gates that are entrances for the Park, including Amdanda gate, Dhangarhi gate, Khara gate and Durga Devi gate. Offering rich and varied wildlife, the destinations offers great exciting experiences to its visitors. It is a perfect stopover if you are an adventure freak, birdwatcher, angler, nature lover or animal lover.
