Situated on the Western Ghats, Matheran is a small yet a charming hill station of Maharashtra. The city doesn’t let any vehicle entering into its perimeter that makes it a calm and perfect region. All cars are needed to be parked at Dasturi Naka which is around a distance of 2.5 KM away from the town. So, if you are visiting this place, don’t carry heavy luggage while traveling here. If you cannot walk then take a pony ride up to Matheran from Dasturi Naka. The place is renowned to be the smallest hill station in the country and its calm atmosphere makes it a very well-known place for weekend escape in the state of Maharashtra. This place is just right for a weekend break and located 90 KM away from Mumbai and 120 KM away from Pune.

There are many places in Matheran for staying, including luxury resorts to simple lodges or an MTDC bungalow to pure vegetarian guesthouses; you can choose to stay wherever you want. Matheran was constructed in the year 1855 and this eco-sensitive hill station takes you back into a time when there were no vehicles provided it a charm that’s difficult to find elsewhere. King George Point

King George Point is cuddled in the greenery and rolling hills. This place offers a scenic view of nearby valleys and the composed Charlotte Lake. Rambagh Point

Belvedere Point

The temple enjoys a resemblance with Dilwara Jain Temples of Mount Abu as far as its structure is concerned. The ancient temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It had been constructed by King Mahamandaleshwar to honor his predecessor. On the special eve of Shivratri, a fair is organized at the shrine with great fervor.

Paymaster Park

It is one of the historical parks in Matheran, which is admired for different range of flowers. The park is named after Lt. Col. Paymaster and a number of flowers are planted there to grab attention of the tourists.

Neral Matheran Toy Train

Managed by Central Railways, Neral Matheran Toy Train is a famous heritage train. The foundation of this hill railway was laid by Abdul Hussein Adamjee Peerbhoy was opened for public in the year 1907. At present, there are four pairs of train operating between the destinations i.e., distance of about 20 KM. It is fun ride for kids and adults.

Other Attractions and Excursions

Some of the other viewpoints in Matheran are, ‘Hart Point’, ‘Little Chowk Point’ and ‘One Tree Hill Point’. “Mount Berry”, located about 5 KM away from Matheran is one of the most famous tourist spots around the region. This place is popular for its natural beauty.
