Bird Watching Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary is a paradise for bird watching. One should visit the place from June to September. During this period, myriad of bird species, including cormorants, darters, white ibis, storks (spoon-billed, open-billed, painted, and white-necked), swallows, streaked weavers, ducks, teals, egrets, herons, terns, sandpipers, kingfishers, and other exotic birds make the sanctuary its home. Wildlife Watching There are two wildlife hubs situated near Mysore. One among them is Nagarhole National Park, which is recognized for its population of Asiatic elephants, spotted deer, sambar, barking deer, four-horned antelope, tigers, leopard, wild dog (dhole or Cuon alpinus), sloth bear, hyena, gaur, and wild boar. Another one is Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary, which features bonnet macaques, palm civets, common mongoose and common otters. The zoo houses a number of animals, including Royal Bengal tigers, white tigers, elephants, giraffe, fallow deer, Himalayan black bear, Guar (Indian bison), white peafowl and Indian rhino.
