Lansdowne, India

Lansdowne is a cantonment town in Pauri Garhwal district of the Uttarakhand state of India. It was earlier known as Kaludanda due to the Black Hill of Garhwal. It was renamed after then Viceroy of India, Lord Lansdowne in year 1887. Lansdowne was actually one of the most preferred hill stations of the British. It is surrounded by dense forests of oak and blue pine and far from the common bustles of other hill stations. Completely developed by the British to cater to the recruits training centre of the Garhwal Rifles of British Indian Army, Lansdowne was the key activity place of the freedom fighters from British Garhwal during British era. At present, Lansdowne houses the command office of the eminent Garhwal Rifles regiment of the Indian Army. Garhwal Rifles Regimental War Memorial

Founded on 11 November, 1923 by Lord Rawlinson of Trent, the then Commander-in-Chief of India, the Garhwal Rifles Regimental War Memorial is one of the most popular destination to explore in Lansdowne. St Mary’s Church

This inventive church was built in 1896. St Marry by Colonel AHB Hume. The church became neglected after 1947. However, the building has been restored by Garhwal Rifles Regimental Centre. Darban Singh Regimental Museum

Named after Darban Singh Negi, the museum is housed in a motivational hall inaugurated in 1983. It displays an exceptional collection of Garhwal Rifles from the time of its foundation.

St. John’s Church

Situated on the mall road of Lansdowne, it is a Roman Catholic Church. The church was earlier a forest bungalow, which was restored on Nov 29, 1980. It is the only church in Lansdowne, which is being worshiped.

Bhulla Lake
